Feinwerkbau Westinger & Altenburger GmbH was founded after World War II by senior engineers Karl Westinger and Ernst Altenburger and entered in the commercial register in 1951. Up until 1960, the young company’s main source of revenue was the production and supply of precision parts for well-known companies. In addition, an electromechanical calculating machine was developed, which was considered highly modern at the time and was manufactured in large numbers by the Olympia works in Wilhelmshaven. Until 1975 all Olympia calculators were developed in Oberndorf until they were ready for series production.
After the re-establishment of the German Shooting Federation in 1956, the two company founders, who were experienced in gun construction, developed the first air rifle intended for competitions with a side cocking device, a rigid line of sight and a patented recoil system for a vibration-free shot, which caused a great stir in the early 1960s and inspired almost all sport shooters. Almost all records were broken in a short time, the targets were made smaller and still the highest results were achieved with Feinwerkbau air rifles. The same happened from 1965 with Feinwerkbau air pistols.
With these products, Feinwerkbau was able to contribute to an extraordinary increase in performance in sport shooting worldwide and due to the great demand for sporting guns from Feinwerkbau, it was possible to expand the company, optimize production and, above all, carry out the further development of high-precision sporting guns. In accordance with contemporary developments, the spring-driven airguns were followed by CO2 rifles and pistols, as well as sports guns with pre-compressed air and today with compressed air. A sports pistol AW93 with recoil damping and a complete range of small caliber rifles round off the range of sports weapons from Feinwerkbau.
Feinwerkbau still manufactures high-precision individual parts and small series for well-known companies today. This encourages management and employees to take the utmost care in the precision and quality of all products.
